The European Commission, in particular the DG for Regional and Urban Policy together with the DG for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, published this guide in the context of Europe 2020 Strategy. It offers a European definition of social innovation and then provides advice for public bodies on how they can support and enable it, highlighting that social innovation can be an essential strategy for the European competitiveness on issues related to health services, education, aging and climate change. This publication, which is mainly focused at regional level, includes a section with ten practical steps on how to implement social innovation and shows successful European initiatives from different fields of social innovation, such as social economy, inclusion, urban development and employment.
