Keywords: social innovation, case studies, policy, Latin America, Caribbean

This report is based on an examination of 4,800 innovation experiences in Latin America and the Caribbean, gleaned by ECLAC and the W. K. Kellogg Foundation from five annual competition cycles. Twenty-five winners were chosen as being the most innovative and having the greatest impact on the region’s social development. This publication aims to place these innovations and, above all, their capability for improving living conditions for every inhabitant of the region, at the service of broader groups of the population. Success criteria of the most successful endeavours are documented along with profiles of the award-winning projects, the factors decisive in their success, and the lessons learned from these individual stories. The participation of the beneficiary community was also noted as being crucial to success.[Extracted from the Executive Summary].
