TRANSIT uses a methodology which combines deductive and inductive processes in order to put together the meta-theoretical discussion with  ground-based insights. This deliverable 4.2 is a major output from the empirical research efforts.

This report gives an overview and a comparative analysis of the findings from the 12 first case study reports in TRANSIT about aspects of transformative social innovation (TSI). Each of the 12 reports, on which the report is based, includes an analysis of a transnational social innovation network and at least two local social innovation initiatives.

Tips for readers

  • Due to the strong emphasis on empirical research and the necessarily comparativeness across  case studies, the document presents two initial sections on methodological guidelines.
  • So, if the preference of the reader is the main analytical output you can go directly to section 4, 5 and 6. These three section are organized as follow:
    • Section 4 presents an historical perspective on social innovation
    • Section 5 performs a comparative analysis between case studies an across aspects of change: social innovation, system innovation, game changers, narratives of change and societal transformation.
    • Section 6 introduces the discussion on empowerment and dis-empowerment in transformative social innovation across the four main dimensions of TRANSIT Project: Governance, Social Learning, Monitoring and Resourcing.
  • Finally, the document end with methodological reflections (section 7) and a synthesis of findings (section 8)
