The housing cooperative "Los Pibes" was created in 2004 in the south of Buenos Aires city (in the neighborhood of La Boca). The "COVILPI" promote de self-managed building and co-housing.

COVILPI emerged in the neighborhood of La Boca in the south of the city of Buenos Aires at the end of the late 1990s in the context of a deep housing crisis that experienced in the city. The organization is consolidated in the fight for legislation that contemplates the building of houses through self-management (obtained with the sanction of law 341). In 2003, the first housing cooperative was created, which is carrying out the building of the first 33 houses inaugurated in 2015.

Resolution 525/97

After several protests and movilizations, in august of 1997 the City Government approved the resolution 525 that established a system of accessible credits for housing. The resolution was the first great goal reached for the co-housing social movements in La Boca.

Mobilization to the municipal housing commission

At the beginning of 2002, different social movements mobilized towards the Municipal Housing Commission to demand the delayed regulation of the co-housing law 341. This fact became a milestone in the history of COVILPI and showed the capacity of the organization.

Murder of the cooperative leader "el Oso Cisneros"

In June 2004 there was a fact that marked the history of COVILPI. One of its leaders, "El Oso Cisneros", was murdered with police complicity. For the members of the organization, this occurred to stop the COVILPI activities in the neighborhood.

Inauguration of the "Paseo de la economía popular"

In March 2014, COVILPI opened the "Paseo de la Economía Popular" in a cooperative property. This commercial space was created so that different social organizations and cooperatives offer their products in conditions of fair trade.

Inauguration of COVILPI's first Building

In 2015, after an 8-year process, COVILPI inaugurated the first building built with the system of self-management and mutual aid. The building is a symbol of the entire process experienced since the mid-1990s.
