Basic income has gained more reach and popularity over the years, taking the spotlights as a potentially viable public policy for the future. This method has already been adopted by several cities in Europe and is currently implemented as a pilot. 

The 17th BIEN Congress taking place in Portugal this coming September will bring into discussion various aspects of the politics of a basic income, concerning mainly the implementation of this method. A few of the central topics are:

  • Economic models for a basic income
  • The economic case for and against UBI in Europe
  • Evaluations and prospects of various pilot projects
  • The politics of a basic income
  • The relation between basic income and other welfare benefits
  • The costs of poverty

For the ones who want to present, 300 word-abstracts must be submitted by March 31st 2017 at bien2017.callforpapers@gmail.com
